The advertising has been live for only 2 weeks and already AMS have landed a number of new customers; a direct result of the advertising.

Abstrakt have been working with AMS on brand alignment and the prodution of all printed market collateral, POS and advertising for the last few years.

To give prospective clients a bit of info about how we work, here’s an overview of our logo design process.

The Design Brief

A well thought through design brief saves everyone time. It helps the client focus attention on the objectives of the project and helps us with understanding what is required.

We supply our clients with a briefing document to help tease out the important points and then complete a briefing meeting with the client to clarify.

We take into account the clients target market and competitors, market trends, product/service differentiators, the history of the business and the direction it is moving towards.

Research & Brainstorming

We spend time reviewing the information supplied at the briefing stage, then begin the research and brainstorming stage.

Sketching

We go back to basics and start all logo projects with sketches which helps generate a strong set of possible directions.

Rendering

We take the strongest ideas from the sketching phase and develop them into workable concepts.

Presentation

The design presentation is supplied as a PDF file, with each concept shown in various formats in black & white and in colour

Feedback

We ask the client to consider the designs and prepare feedback based upon how the ideas relate to the brief and pre-set objectives.

Development

Following client review, we either finalise the project, or make any revisions agreed upon.

Supply of Artwork

We supply the client with a full logo pack containing all formats for print and the web. Additional artwork is supplied as pdf.

As avid readers of Design Week we eagerly anticipate the delivery of our studio copy each Thursday and fight over who gets to have it for the weekend. Imagine our disappointment therefore when last weeks copy landed on the doorstep emblazoned with ‘The Last Issue – Design Week closes after 25 years’. No, Design Week is not closing it’s doors (thank goodness), however as of this week, Design Week subscribers will only be able to access the journals content online.

As individuals who work on computers everyday, spend hours on our iphones and who are already looking forward to the launch of the next ipad we are more than used to accessing content online, however something feels innately wrong with making this particular journal purely digital.

Personally, I do not read Design Week at my desk, I read it at my breakfast table with a coffee, lying in the hammock in the garden (weather permitting), even at the kids indoor play centre. For me, Design Week is a leisurely read and a pleasure to read and a decidedly out-of-hours ‘job’. Some of that pleasure comes from the actual experience of relaxing with an interesting and relevant journal and I can’t help but feel that some of that enjoyment will now be lost. I am not anti-digital, quite the contrary, but it’s just not the same as actually holding it in your hands.

Design Week (and it’ sister journal Creative Review), is a bit of an institution in our industry – the leading journal in the UK Design world, addressing issues, showcasing case studies, providing articles and promoting design campaigns BOTH ON AND OFF line. As far as I am concerned a publication promoting design (including print design and advertising), that is shunning the print medium is a mistake.

Design Week has always been a basic staple of our design studio’s coffee table and we always have a stack of the latest copies for browsing pre-meeting, during coffee-breaks and over lunch. Picked up, browsed and borrowed by staff, friends, visitors and clients alike, there will now be a magazine shaped hole where this coffee table publication once stood – what a shame.

Design Week claim that by moving online they will be able to improve the ‘information service’ service to us the loyal reader. Maybe so, but we are losing alot too. Bye Bye Design Week Magazine

Our readership research shows that Design Week is most valued for its design news and authoritative commentary on the business of design. We believe that by concentrating on just digital we can improve our information service to you, ensuring that we remain at the heart of the UK design industry.

Jonas Mace is a London based jewellery designer. Jonas’ work is materials based and design led and his work is an endless pursuit in pushing the limits of both. With a thorough understanding of the physics of the materials, he works the metal into forms which are seemingly impossible yet aesthetically pleasing.

Jonas came to us to provide a functional yet beautiful website that showed off his works to their full advantage.

Right from the homepage all products are immediately visible and their images expandable to full width, making it incredibly easy as well as a pleasure to use.

The design – a clean, modern layout and fluid user interface perfectly reflects the very essence of of Jonas’ work.

My first words were “WOW… wow.”It all looks so great, so professional. Great work. The transitions are nice, and it’s so easy to use. Thanks, and again, excellent work!
